Kappa Sigma Takes Polar Plunge for Hunter Syndrome

DATE: Saturday, February 3, 2007
TIME: 11:00AM.
LOCATION: 12TH Street and the Beach, Brigantine, New Jersey
WHY: To raise awareness and funds for medical research for Hunter Syndrome

The Brothers of the Kappa Sigma International Fraternity at Richard Stockton College have made it a tradition to take “The Polar Plunge” to raise money for charity. All active Brothers, alumni, friends and family travel to Brigantine to take the “POLAR PLUNGE” into the ice-cold ocean each February. This year Brothers from other Kappa Sigma Chapters including Temple University, Kutztown University, and University of Delaware will join us.

Why would we do such a thing? Each year we select a worthy charity to raise money. We rely on donations from alumni, family, friends, and local businesses that share our passion for helping those in need. This year the charity we selected is, “Making Precious Strides.” Making Precious Strides, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds for medical research as well as generating greater awareness of Mucopolysaccharidosis type II (Hunter Syndrome) throughout the United States. To learn more about this disease and organization please visit www.makingpreciousstrides.org .

This particular charity is well known at Stockton College as one of the administrators in the admissions office has a son who was diagnosed with Hunter Syndrome. An annual event, www.zachsrun.org , was started in his son’s honor where participants walk or run 5k on the Atlantic City Boardwalk to raise funds for research for Hunters Syndrome. We are hoping to make Kappa Sigma’s Polar Plunge the winter version of Zach’s Run. We hope all past donors will be willing to pitch in again to help raise funds for Hunter Syndrome. Together we can improve the quality of these children’s lives and help to raise awareness and contribute to research for this very difficult to diagnose disease.

Donors will receive personalized, framed certificates for donations of $100 or more, however any contribution will help make a difference. All donations are tax deductible. Please make all checks payable to “Making Precious Strides, Incorporated”, Tax ID is 20-4715542. Checks may be mailed to Kappa Sigma, PO BOX 195, Pomona NJ 08240
